This route takes you from Zug to Schonenberg in Canton Zurich before turning back to the roads of Finstersee and Zugerberg, through a variety of woodland with plenty of open vistas. There are some tough climbs and technical terrain that will test the best riders. But the rewards are massive, with stunning views and long looping descents. For riders who love adventures, it is a brilliant place to ride.
The route starts at Loretto in Zug, leaving Baar, the course turns toward Baarburg, and the steepness kicks on a wide gravel road. With a short and fast descent back to the main road towards Sihlbrugg. Just after crossing the Sihl, facing a short but very steep road towards Hirzle that turns into Gravel after a couple of hundred meters. This road is part of the Saumweg that used to be the main path used by merchants to transport goods from Zug to Zurich in the middle ages. After Leaving Hirzel, the route goes on flowy roads at Schonenberg. You’ll have astonishing views of lake Zurich and the Alps as you roll through.
A short and technical road led us down to lake Teufenbachweier. From Neuageri, the route takes an uphill again and goes up to Zugerberg on a long but smooth gravel road within the pine forests. We are finishing the climb on a short and technical single track before reaching the peak. From the top of the Zugerberg, the descent is on a smooth asphalt road with many hairpins. It is a flat-out fast ride all the way down to Zug.
