How about an adventurous bike tour along the picturesque Lake Zug? This route can be undertaken as a round trip from Zug or Cham, but for the best experience, we recommend a boat trip from Zug across the lake. The boat departs from Zug at 10.45 am on Sundays and arrives in Buonas at 11.25 am. On board the Lake Zug boats, you can treatyourself for the onward journey with a delicious ice cream or even a breakfast. There are a special puzzle and game boxes on the board for children. This makes the crossing entertaining for the kids.
Especially in high season, space on board is not always guaranteed, which is why reservations are recommended. This can be done via the Zugersee Schifffahrt website or by telephone. Learn more about it here.
Navigating this route is a breeze as it follows quiet backroads along the lake, with minimal traffic. You can hop on the train at multiple stops, so you don’t have to commit to the entire route from the start.
Once you arrive at Buonas, walk up the hill and turn right. You will ride through scenic farmlands as you leave Buonas behind.
A perfect spot for a break or even a full-day outing is the Hünenberg Badi, offering extensive children's areas with a paddling pool, a learning pool, and a non-swimmer section in the lake. There’s also a restaurant and clean facilities. From here, you can either continue biking towards Cham or take the train from Zythus if you need a rest.
Entering Cham, you'll ride through the beautiful Villette Park with a large playground. As you continue towards Zug, you'll pass the PumpTrack, which provides plenty of challenging turns for the whole family. Opposite is the Cham Seeweg lido, an attractive spot for the entire family. The spacious lawn area is shaded by trees, perfect for hot summer days. Younger children will love the non-swimmer pool with its slide and the paddling pool protected by a sun sail. The newly designed playground caters to both large and small children, and the Strandbad Restaurant offers a variety of meals to satisfy any hunger.
From here, the route follows the Veloweg, a wide gravel road, all the way to Zug. It passes Zug Bruggli and Hafen before ending at Rigiplatz playground in Zug, a popular meeting place for all ages. Younger children can enjoy the big sandbox with water games or the baby swings, while older kids can show off their climbing skills and slide down the main slide.
