This route is a 14 km long family bike ride from the scenic hills above Zug, along the picturesque Lorze River, and ending at the shores of Lake Zug. This route starts with a bus ride to Neuägeri, making it a perfect adventure for all ages.
Begin your journey by taking the No. 601 bus from Zug to the Schmittli bus stop in Neuägeri. Remember to get a separate bike ticket and confirm with the driver that there's enough room for your bikes. The ride starts on the main road, but after 200 meters, you'll transition to a fine gravel path along the Lorze River, providing a safe and serene cycling experience.
The route gently winds its way through Baar and Zug on easy gravel and paved paths, mostly flat or slightly downhill and largely separate from car traffic. A brief stretch on a low-traffic country road adds a touch of variety to the ride.
A highlight of the journey is the enchanting Höllgrotten caves, located about halfway down the path. These fairy-tale caves, with their stunning rock formations, small lakes, stalagmites, and stalactites, are a must-visit. Facilities at the caves include a kiosk and toilets and a charming restaurant just a 10-minute walk away, offering delicious house specialities
Continuing on, the path merges with a paved road with minimal traffic. Throughout the ride, you'll find numerous spots to rest by the river, cool off, or enjoy a picnic at one of the many fireplaces
Don’t miss the new viewing platform just after Baar Spinnerei. Shortly, you will cross a main road where you need a bit of caution
Midway along the route, you'll come across the Robi Playground, perfect for a quick play break
As you approach the final stretch, around 11-12 km, you'll find a small playground with picnic tables and fire pits. From here, it’s only about 2 km to the lake. Follow the signs to 'See' and be rewarded with the breathtaking sight of Lake Zug framed by mountains
On hot summer days, remember your swimsuit for a refreshing dip in the lake. The lakeshore area offers fire pits and toilets, making it an ideal spot for a family picnic. You can choose to relax at the lake swimming area or continue riding east into Zug on the cycling path.
